I have changed the splitter, and also the wire running from the splitter into the router. If you are using a router (particularly a dual band router), you'll want to go into the wireless settings (usually under "setup"), and specify a channel. It had returned to the first channel, and I lost WiFi connection every hour on my laptop, despite the modem saying it was fine.
