The first two things totally fixed the issues I was having, even after 2 different techies couldn't figure out the issue. I bought a PCI WIFI adapter and connected it to the mother board. I saw this on PC Advisor and thought you should see it too. Or I have to re-enable the alternate connection. Previously I had (and I still have) a D-link router that never had this problem.
